Get to know Amy

Amy McCormick understands how discouraging it can be to not feel heard. Kids and teens often feel like no one is truly listening. It can be really hard to manage multiple aspects of life — school, family, activities — simultaneously. Amy is here to help your child (and you) tackle the tough issues standing in their way.

Let’s go team!

As your child’s medication prescriber, Amy focuses on team approach where everyone works together to meet your child’s goals. Your child will have a voice in their treatment plan. Amy strives to provide options and education for informed decisions. She is also open to discussing alternative or complementary treatments and recommend medications upon request.

Amy wants to understand what you and your child are seeking in their care and tailor the treatment plan to fit their individual needs. She values what each person brings and loves learning from her clients! Amy will always act with your child’s best interest in mind and give your family the care she’d expect for her own loved ones.

We are all unique. That said, each person has a different viewpoint. Amy respects your perspective, even if you disagree with hers. She will always listen to your concerns and do her best to find a solution. Amy takes her practice seriously and holds very high standards for serving your family. If there is ever something you don’t like or think is missing, just ask! She’ll do her best to make it happen.

Down a windy, twisty, path

Life has taken Amy down a path of twists, turns, and unexpected changes all leading her to us at Covenant Family Solutions and serving your family. Though she didn’t see it at the time, each change was necessary to get to the next step. She feels so strongly that she is right where she was meant to be.

Amy began her nurse practitioner career as a pediatric nurse practitioner (CPNP-PC). In her practice she witnessed an overwhelming need to support the mental health of the children in her care as well as their physical wellbeing. That feeling led her to an additional certification as a primary care mental health specialist (PMHS) and eventually onto pursue dual board certification as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP). Amy will complete her PMHNP degree in August of 2023.

There is no place like home

Raised in the community, Amy is proud to call the Quad Cities home. She and her husband have three boys who keep them quite busy. When she does have some downtime and if you catch her glued to her phone, there’s roughly an 85 percent chance she’s reading an article for new treatments, evidence-based practice recommendations, or searching for solutions to a clinical problem. It is fair to say, Amy is a total research nerd!

Given her devotion to healthcare, it’s not surprising to learn that Amy is a big fan of Disney’s Doc McStuffins. She also enjoys the classics, with the Wizard of Oz being one of her all-time favorites. Amy also loves being outdoors…when the weather cooperates. You can catch she enjoying the warm sunshine all summer and whining about the cold all winter (like a true Midwesterner). During the summer months, Amy loves watching water ski shows by Rock Island’s Backwater Gamblers — her favorite team of any sport.

As she holds degrees from both the University of Iowa AND the University of Illinois, she has your back no matter which side of the river holds your loyalty.

It’s very brave to ask for help. — Doc McStuffins

In the words of Amy’s favorite character Doc McStuffins, “The storm might be bad, but as long as everyone helps out, we’ll get through this together.” Amy would be honored to care for your family. Get direction for your life!

Most of our poor decisions and behaviors that we wish we could re-do are driven by our feelings. In most cases we are probably reacting from an emotion and not even really thinking!

ODD is one of the most common behavioral disorders among kids. Unfortunately, people exhibiting these behaviors are sometimes mislabeled as "naughty" or "bad," which can be damaging.

Regulate your emotions and then engage in co-regulation with your teen from a place of curiosity and compassion.
