Katie Dunlavey, RN

Senior Clinic Nurse

Katie Dunlavey is one of our Psychiatric Clinic Nurses. She has years of experience caring for those with mental illness, physical development disabilities, and substance use disorder. She also has over three years of experience as a Utilization Review Nurse.

Prior to her current role, she worked in the adult psychiatric unit at St Luke’s Hospital for 17 years. As a floor nurse, she learned how to help people experiencing a variety of mental illnesses. This includes those with aggressive tendencies that may need to be constrained. She built great communication skills and is compassionate and patient with all individuals. Further, she was nominated for the Daisy Award for Excellence in Nursing.

When talking with new patients, Katie gives them her full attention. Listening to how someone is feeling is a key part of her job. This is because you must know what is going on in order to offer support and guidance.

Similarly, if someone calls in angry for any reason, she approaches the situation with understanding. While it may be difficult to be on the receiving end at times, she knows that in most cases it is the result of something difficult going on. Her patience and empathy allows her to be mindful of the situation while finding a solution.

Outside of work, Katie enjoys spending time with her husband and three boys, kickboxing, cooking, and eating Italian food. Additionally, there is no shortage of football, basketball, baseball, or soccer games in their household.
