Tanner Clark, LMFT

Therapist, Marion Site Coordinator

Tanner Clark, LMFT joined Covenant Family Solutions after many years providing mental health services in a variety of settings and leadership roles. He is the Site Coordinator at our Marion office and also provides therapy to individuals, couples, and families. Previously, he served as the clinical director of a mental health practice in western Iowa. Tanner has also been an adjunct professor in marriage and family therapy.

As a child and teen, Tanner found it difficult to connect with other people. Now, as an adult, connecting with others is in his literal job description. He now channels those memories of struggling with connections in his youth as he guides patients in their communication skills. Tanner is also grateful for the opportunity to be a peacemaker. He works to facilitate healing among those who trust them with their mental health.

A Leader and Mentor

Over the course of Tanner’s career, he has often served as a mentor for those joining the field. He has also taken on a multitude of leadership roles. Tanner served as an executive board member with the Oklahoma Chapter of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. He also serves as a supervisor and mentor to newly licensed providers as an AAMFT Approved Supervisor.

Care for those experiencing Chronic or Severe Illness

Most recently, Tanner’s work has been devoted to his own studies. He is currently pursuing his PhD in Marriage and Family therapy with an emphasis in Medical Family Therapy. To explain, this area of mental health serves individuals who have been diagnosed with a chronic or severe illness and their families.

Medical Family therapy supports people facing a difficult diagnosis. It provides the tools and skills needed to cope with the mental health impact. Tanner also helps patients communicate with their family and close friends about the diagnosis. Collaboration with other healthcare providers helps ensure a holistic approach to caring for the person’s physical and mental health.

A Nature-Loving Adventurer

Outside of the office, Tanner likes to get out in nature. You might even catch him catching a few Pokemon along the way with his daughter. An Oklahama native, Tanner is enjoying exploring the Iowa countryside. He’s also a bit a of a self-confessed “nerd” and is always up for catching an episode of Dr. Who when he has the chance. The jury is still out on whether Star Trek is better than Star Wars (spoiler alert, it is) — but Tanner enjoys both.
