We provide traditional individual therapy for a wide range of mental health needs. You may seek therapy for any concerns affecting your life including low self-confidence, depression, and anxiety.

Couples Therapy

Couples Therapy

When there are a million things to focus on, relationships can get placed on the back burner. Couples therapy gives you and your partner time to connect and work on yourselves.

Family Therapy

Family Therapy

When we feel as though we are not communicating with members of our family, it can cause stress. If your family is struggling, a therapist can help you learn new ways to work through every day issues.

Play Therapy

Play Therapy

Children often are unable to talk about what they think and feel or why they misbehave. Play therapy allows children to express their emotions naturally in a safe and supportive environment.

Teletherapy

Teletherapy

Teletherapy is a convenient option for people who struggle to find time to make it into the office for traditional therapy. It can also be helpful for those who live in an area where there are few mental health providers.

School-Based Therapy

School-Based Therapy

Through our school-based programs, we are able to offer services directly at your child’s school. Our providers meet with your child during the school day. We work together with your child's teachers.

EMDR Therapy

EMDR

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing) may help those recovering from trauma. It focuses on symptoms of emotional distress from life experiences and works to activate natural healing.

Individual Therapy

Individual therapy is provided by a trained professional using different tools. People of all ages can benefit from having a place to work through areas of their life impacting their mental health with individual therapy.

You may feel you are losing control of your own thoughts and emotions, allowing your inner critic to take over. Temporary fixes like burying yourself in work, watching TV, or talking to friends may help briefly — but, you still aren’t feeling like yourself. When you feel as though you have tried everything but are still being controlled by your thoughts, it might be time to try something different. Individual therapy can provide you with a confidential and safe space to begin to sort through your thoughts.

Couples Therapy

Couples Therapy

Couples in many stages of relationships can benefit from couples therapy. When there are a million things to focus on, relationships can get placed on the back burner. Between focusing on work, children, school, and all the other events in everyday life, you may realize you and your partner haven’t taken the time to connect and work on yourselves.

You may feel as though you can never express how you are truly feeling or realize your conversations frequently turn into arguments. When you feel disconnected from your partner, it can be helpful to sit down with a trained professional who can help you strengthen your connection.

Family Therapy

You may feel as though no one ever says the right thing to one another or your family is constantly struggling with ups and downs. If your family is struggling to communicate, a trained professional can help you learn new ways to work through every day issues.

Family members of all ages can benefit from working together to address difficulties they are facing. We’ve worked with families facing parenting problems, major changes, divorce, unexpected loss, and communication difficulties. Family concerns we’ve worked with include adjustment to major changes within the family, divorce, conflict between parents and children, or the death of a family member.

Play Therapy

Play Therapy

Children often do not have the resources they need to verbalize what they think and feel. Often, children are unable to find the words to explain why the misbehave. However, play is a  language that comes easy to most kids. Toys are their words.

With play therapy, kids are able to have fun, learn, explore, and communicate with adults about the things they are experiencing. Therapists use the power of play to help children prevent or resolve mental health struggles so that they are able to reach their full potential.

Teletherapy

Life can be incredibly hectic, and it may be hard for you to find the time to attend therapy in an office setting. Living in a rural area or struggling with mobility issues may also make it difficult for you to attend sessions. If you feel as though you are ready to confront concerns such as relationship difficulties, anxiety, or life transitions but aren’t able to get to the office consistently, teletherapy may fit into your busy schedule.

Our therapists can provide therapy through a secure system that ensures your privacy. To receive teletherapy at Covenant Family Solutions you must reside in the state of Iowa. You will attend your first session at our office so your provider can determine if teletherapy will be a good fit for you. Your provider will work with you to form a plan to address your areas of concern.

School-Based Therapy

School-based Therapy

Life is busy. It can be difficult to find the time to get your child into therapy. School-based therapy services allow your child to get the help they need during the school day.

You may wonder why your child should see a school-based provider instead of their school counselor? Sometimes, your child may be going through something that requires a higher level of care than a school counselor is designed to provide. Your child’s therapist will work together with  teachers and school counselors to form a collaborative care team.

Currently, Covenant Family Solutions offers school-based services in the Alburnett, Lisbon, Springville, and North Cedar school districts.

EMDR

When something happens to us that is disturbing or traumatic, we often struggle to put it out of our minds. Sometimes, the more you try to forget, the more this event begins to impact you.

In some cases, you can feel stuck and as though you are frozen by your past. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing) is a type of therapy which uses your eye movements to help you reduce the power of traumatic memories. Your EMDR trained provider will help you work through a variety of phases that focus on the past, present, and future to assist you in working through trauma and emotional distress.

Get Direction for Your Life!

Find inspiration on your path to mental wellness. Please note, these articles are not a replacement for personal medical advice.

Mental health medications and a holistic lifestyle can't just only coexist, the combination can be a game changer for mental health.

You may be faced with the question, “Does my child need medication for their mental health?” If your child is worried, sad, angry, or overwhelmed, encourage them to talk to a trusted adult. If they are struggling with things like regulating emotions, controlling anger, or focusing it may be a good idea to discuss it with a medical professional.

While we cannot change the past, it IS possible to stop the cycle of intergenerational trauma and prevent it in future generations. Community support and resources play an important role.
