“Helping the Helpers: A Support Group for Medical Professionals” is a therapeutic support group for those in the medical field. We created this group to help healthcare workers cope with their experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic.
How Does it Help?
The group will meet weekly. It will address the trauma witnessed and felt by those in the medical field. These are the people who have held the hands and hearts of patients diagnosed with COVID-19 and their families.
“Healthcare workers need a safe space to talk through their feelings and the toll this pandemic has taken on their mental health,” shares CFS Therapist Lindsey Piper, LISW. “It occurred to me that there were not many resources to help the helpers.”
We will use a secure virtual conferencing system to ensure the health and safety of participants. It will be a confidential space for medical professionals to talk about their experiences with peers.
The focus will be on discussing the physical and mental health toll of being a provider during this pandemic. It will also address burnout and secondary trauma. This has consistently been a concern in the medical field even prior to COVID-19.
